Enable version control on the Forms Server

I want to enable version control for the forms I upload to the Forms Server. I have done this by enabling Create major and minor (draft) versions in the Versioning Settings of the Form Templates folder on the Forms Server. But when I now try to upload my form in Application Management, I get the following error:
A form template with the same version is already on the server. This may be the same form template, or you may need to increase the version of the form template and try again.
The error occur regardless of Upgrade the form template if it already exists being enabled or disabled. I've tried to make changes to the form, and changing the version from 1.0.0.61 to 1.1.0.0 in Form Options > Versioning, but with no effect.

Hello Miceagol and welcome to the forums!

It sounds like you are trying to upload your form as an Administrator Approved form. You will actually need to publish that form as an Administrator Approved Form. See this Technet article for complete information on doing this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262921.aspx. Also, this blog may help: http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/janice/archive/2009/03/03/administrator-approved-form-templates.aspx.

Re: Enable version control on the Forms Server

You're talking about two different things.  Versioning in the forms library will ensure that each time a particular form is edited, it creates a new version.  This is AFTER your template has been published and someone creates a new form using that template.  The thing you're doing in Central Administration is trying to upload your form template.  the version of your template has nothing to do with versioning in your forms library.  The error is telling you that the same form template is already published to the forms library, I guess.  Why are you trying to upload it to Central Admin?  Does it require administrative approval?  Didn't you already publish it to the forms library in SharePoint where you turned on versioning?  Don't put it in Central Admin unless something requires it to be administratively approved.

Re: Enable version control on the Forms Server

What I did was to enable version control in Central Administration and on the Forms Server, but it was just the latter that I was supposed to do. To update the form I now upload a new document in the Form Templates folder. Uploading it through Central Administration was only necessary for the initial release.

    Thank you for your help.

Edit: Well, seems I got another problem. When I update the form by uploading the published file on the Forms server, it stops being browser enabled, even though the uploaded file is identical to the one I uploaded in Central Administration initially. When trying to open the document in IE7 it wants to be opened in InfoPath, and if I try the same in Firefox I get the following error:

This form template is not currently browser-enabled. It must either be republished as a browser-enabled form, or opened using Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007.
