    GetManagerAlias & GetMyInfo

    hello everyone!

i think i've read all the forum postings for Qdabra AD Web Service and have not found a solution. My form has GetMyInfo to "onload" obtain the Name & Email address of the person filling out the form. Then i had a hidden field that contained the username. From the username field, i wanted to have the manager populate in its' field by using the GetManagerAlias. I've tried so many combinations of rules, etc and i'm not getting any results. The only time i get a result with GetMyInfo is when  I want the "manager" key to load its' Value in my Manager field. But that contains too much jumbled info as I only need the manager's UserName to populate. So, i've tried several solutions from these forum postings and none have worked for me so far.

Any suggestions and/or solutions is greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Crystal

Hi there! Thanks for trying out product.

You want to have three rules when the form opens:
    1. Get My Info
    2. Get Manager Alias (using the Get My Info username as input)
    3. Get Manager Info (using the result from GetManagerAlias to call GetUserInfo)

You could also add a button that loads the Manager info:

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi again -

Thanks for the quick response! I do know i need three rules and understand the concept - but - do i place these rules in my field name "managerusername" ? I definitely know I do not want a button inside this form. I think it would confuse my forms users.

As for #2 & #3 - I need to create a field for the username, but i'm not exactly sure how to use that result into my next formulas.

    Thanks

Don't use the rules on a field. Go to Tools > Form Options > Open and Save > Rules and add them there. The rules will then execute when the form opens.

The rules would be similar to the ones used here but without using a button to call the final rule. As an example, look at step 9 there: it encompasses the second and third rule I mentioned above.

It worked!!! I had to play with the last rule a little bit, but it worked!!!

In case anyone has this issue in the future - here's exactly what Rules i had...

    1. Set field's value: username = Value[Key = "sAMAccountName"]
    2. Query using data connection: GetManagerAlias
    3. Set field's value: username = GetManagerAliasResult
    4. Query using data connection: GetMyInfo
    5. Set a field's value: thefieldnameonform = GetManagerAliasResult

    Thank you very much ErnestoM!!!

I did get this to work, but only when I previewed in InfoPath - my form is browser based and I need the above rules to work when the form is opened in a browser. Any suggestions??

    Thanks so much in advance

Hello! I have looked all over the site in reference to using the GetMyInfo & GetManagerAlias in the Open & Save under Form Options to be capatible with browser forms particularly IE. I have found nothing. Does anyone have any information?

    Thanks

So your open rules don't run when you open it in the browser? Does the design checker show any errors?

    Hi Crystal,

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Of course, we have this working with browser-based forms and we'd be happy to have someone call you and show you a live Webinar of how it works. My guess is that you didn't set up the UDC files for the data connections or forgot to approve them, or something like that. We should have sample UDC files in the download of the ADWS package? Did you purchase the package or are you trying out the trial? Shall we schedule a webinar for you and others showing how to do this?

    Let us know,

     Hi -

We purchased a few weeks ago.  Good to know that this is browser-based. I'm working with IT Manager to find out about the UDC files. I'll post when I have an answer.

     Thanks for all the help!
