SharepointList to InfoPath Form to other SQL Database

Hi, I have a unique situation. I have designed a webpage where endusers put a request with certain information using the web form and hit submit. On submit, the values gets saved to  a sharepoint list as well and also to a separate sql database other than sharepoint list. The sharepoint list has some extra columns as well. After the request hits the sharepoint list, I manually enter other values to those columns in addition to what already gets populated. For eg the sharepoint list has column a, b, c, d, e, f, g. The request page updates columns a,b,c,d to the sharepoint list and also saves the same data to the other sql database. Then later, I manually add vallues to other columns e, f, g which are just in the list but not in the other sql datbase

What I want is to update the sql database with the data in those additional columns too. I want to create a form in infopath which will receive all the data from the sharepoint list and  then submit to the other sql database the values that are added to the sharepoint list later.

New to Infopath. Can someone help please?

I'm wondering -- I may be oversimplifying your scenario -- but couldn't you add the additional fields that relate to columns e, f, and g to your form and hide them from the initial user (conditional formatting or mock user roles, since user role functionality doesn't work in browser forms). I'm assuming your form was based off the SQL db? Or are you using a web service to submit your form's data to SQL? Then you'd open the forms to enter the info for e, f, and g, and submit the form to publish to the list and submit to SQL.... It just seems to me that a single form solution would be simplest.

Re: SharepointList to InfoPath Form to other SQL Database

    Hi Hillary,

Thanks for your response. I will try to explain more clearly. I have a website which people use to put in service requests. Lets say in the website people fill in their information like their name, contact information, Request Type etc. After they submit the webpage, those information are updated in two places, one in sharepoint list and other to a separate sql database.

Now when a request is populated to the sharepoint list, I have to assign it to persons, so there are some more fields which I manually update in the sharepoint list like Assigned To, Complete Date, etc..the values of which appear just in the sharepoint list, need to be saved to the other sql datasource also but have not been yet saved to the other sql datasource. Since I don't know the way I would be able to save those values from the list directly to the other sql datasource, I am using infopath form. So in the infopath form, I want to receive everything from the list and then submit those to the sql database. But I can't submit/Receive at the sametime from my list. I get the choice where either I can only submit or only receive. Right now I am using both sql and sharepoint list to populate the fields in my infopath form.

I am also looking for a good source where I can learn about doing all kinds of stuff in infopath forms...like doing wildcard search, generating crystal reports...could you please refer me to some of the good literature about how to write codes in infopath.

Thank you again for your response!

I'm afraid I'm still a little confused. You are saving to TWO different SQL servers? Or just one? If your form is not built off a database, you won't be able to submit to a data base unless you use a web service. Your current form that you use in the first step, is it based off a database? Does it submit directly to SQL?

Re: SharepointList to InfoPath Form to other SQL Database

My infopath form right now does not submit to any datasource, just receives data.

The form has fields which receive some of the data from the sql datasource- Source 1 which is separate than the sharepoint list and some of the data from sharepoint list-Source 2.

The fields in my sql data source-Source 1 are ID, A, B, C, D, E, AA, BB, CC, DD, EE (the fields A,B,C,D,E already contain data in Source - 1). The fields AA, BB, CC, DD, EE are now blank in Source1 and I want to populate the data from the sharepoint list-Source 2 to these fields in sql datasource- Source 1 which are blank now.

The fields in Sharepoint List-Source 2  has a list which has fields ID, AA, BB, CC, DD, EE. The list has data for the fields in sharepoint list-Source 2.

Now in infopath form I am displaying the data for all the fields by using both the sources. I am receiving data from both of them and I am populating it in the fields since I have ID common to both sources.

What I want to do is to save the data for the fields that is in sharepoint list-Source 2. , AA, BB, CC, DD, EE to sql datasource- Source 1 using the ID as a common field.

Will I be able to do that?

Also, if I want to open the infopath form for a selected item in the list, how will I pass the ID to the infopath so that it opens the form with the information for the selected list item in sharepoint list?

     Your help is appreciated.
