    Changing Servers for data

I have over 100 different InfoPath forms that all query various tables on a SQL server.

In two weeks as part of a server upgrade, those SQL tables are getting moved to a new server that will have a different name.  The database and table names will remain the same.

Is there an easy and efficient way to update my existing forms?

I am afraid that if I reconnect each form manually that my repeating tables will get rebuilt and I will have to redo all the formatting.

    Thanks

    Thank you for your Help.

I'm a lazy girl, so I save my forms as source files, then open up manifest.xsf with a text editor and use find and replace to replace my server name in my data connections. You'll be looking for xsf:adoAdapter and in the connection string property, you'll see Data Source=OldDataSource. You can change to NewDataSource and save. Open manifest.xsf in design mode in IP, test and republish.

All the usual warnings apply -- save a copy prior to mucking about in manifest.xsf, find and replace ALL is not always your friend, etc., but it will save you some time!

Sounds easy enough - just create a separate subdirectory for each form to keep all the source files separate.

I will give it a try in the morning

OK - I gave it a try and after resaving the entire form it says it cant open.

Now I admit I did a "replace all."

Any reason that would not work?

Are you opening in Design mode? If so, what is the error?

Or are you saying after opening again in design mode and resaving the template it won't open? Are there any error details?

The reason I warned against 'replace all' was because sometimes there are other things in the form that may be using the 'find' phrase, just a general disclaimer...

I think we found the issue.  The DBA's did not bring over all the user ID's correctly so it may be a security issue.

As soon as they fix the security I will try again and look at every replace as one of my forms had 4 connections.

    More to come soon.

    All is well!

On a few of the forms I had to reopen the data connection and re-test the SQL connection which seemed to regenerate the schema.

But here it is almost 10:00 pm on a Friday night and almost 100 forms have been updated.

    Thanks for your help.

Wonderful! Yes, walking throught the data connection wizard does refresh the schema. I'm glad this worked for you -- it can be a real time-saver.
