RE: How To Query the Active Directory Web Service

    ErnestoM wrote a nice instruction - http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/web_methods/entry39462.aspx

I'm trying to filter the results that the query gives: Using the 1st example gives all the lines from the AD, I don't need most of that - how can I filter the results?

Or maybe I can use the specific query using the 2nd example but I can't figure how to get multiple lines this way?

Re: RE: How To Query the Active Directory Web Service

    Hi Bob,

The first example is just to show you the available keys. Active Directory has a lot of data and you can filter based on the key. This filtering is illustrated under the Query GetMyInfo section, in step 3, items g thru k. Let me know if you need help with these instructions.

In addition, here's out video demo in case you haven't had the chance to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS9znZHExTs

And here's a blog post explaining a possible limitation: http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/jo-anne_alfafara/archive/2009/02/21/why-adws-will-not-work-with-dropdowns-on-browser-enabled-forms.aspx

Just repeat step three of Query GetMyInfo three times, using a different textbox each time.

That would be great if I wanted myinfo but I don't want an automatic load of my info, I want a query button on userinfo with the specific fields given as results.

Re: RE: How To Query the Active Directory Web Service

    Hello again Bob,

To get user information for a user who is not yourself, you can follow the tutorial, with these small modifications:

    • In step e. of part 2, select GetUserInfo instead of GetMyInfo.  Just press Next on the dialog after you select the method.
    • In step g., uncheck "Automatically retrieve data when the form is loaded"
    • Then after step h of part 2, carry out these extra steps:
      • i.  Open the Data Source taskpane and select the GetUserInfo data connection from the dropdown box.
      • j.  Expand the queryFields node tree until you see the username field.  Drag it into your form and represent it as a textbox.
      • k. Add a button to your form and give it a rule to query GetUserInfo when it is clicked.

Then follow all the rest of the steps and you should be solid.

    Jimmy
Sure I've tried that, but there is no way (that I can see) to edit the FX button in properties - it's greyed out, probably because it wants to use a repeating table rather than individual text boxes.
So I can ether get all AD info using the load auto method or just one line of the AD using a query button.
    I should say I'm using InfoPath 2003 - maybe that's an issue?

And what Fx button in which properties would that be?  I've just tried it (though in IP2007) and it works fine.

Re: RE: How To Query the Active Directory Web Service

    What did you try?

So far we have a query - how do you achieve the results?

I dragged various parts from the GetUser datafields and am asked or presented with a repeating section with a text box, so I think I'll filter by opening the properties and click on the FX button - but it's greyed out.

Re: RE: How To Query the Active Directory Web Service

Once the data connection is set up as I described, please follow all of step 3 of the Query GetMyInfo section of the tutorial you linked to at the top of this thread.  It says nothing about dragging fields into the form.
