Got it. You need distinct values for certainn columns. Let me think about it.

Well, I never did it by myself but if I would be tasked I'd tried the following:

    1)  Download this: http://techdhaan.wordpress.com/2008/05/09/sharepoint-search-web-service-query-tool/

    2) In the query interface chose somthing ( I dont remember) about exclude duplicates.

    3) connect responce xml from Search.asmx to your form.

    4) Populate dropdowns with Search results.

Hope it will help. Let me know if you were successful.

P.S. To optimize it even more you could resend your updated query each time as new dropdown value is populated.

One more note. Another possibility I would consider is to redesign your library in the way where fields you want as drop down sources will be lookup ones from different lists. That setup will be much easier to implement and it'll return more precise data because search results stays the same in between crawls.

Thanks, this is great and worked for me.  However, when I publish the data back to my Forms Library, the email field has these extra characters in the field.

    140;#user@company.com

How do I get the 140;# to not show up?

    Any ideas?  Thanks!

For some reason, I'm not getting any results when I post this into a browser.

     http://moss-dev/client%201/dem-001-01/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List={624C2E3B-7B90-4538-B767-DAD5842AC65D}&View={301C9016-55F8-4720-8CB9-CDBAA8AF7DBB}&XMLDATA=TRUE

Any thoughts on why that would be?

(I was getting some results yesterday, and I figured out how to get the field to update the way that I needed, now I'm not having any luck.)

What kind of message are you getting?

when I enter the link into a browser it shows a blank page.

when I enter it as the datasource, the error I get states that I need at least one item.  (There are 4 items right now for testing.)

I have no idea why it might happen. Try run "iisreset" comand on the server. With wrong parameters you have to get error page at least.

okay, that's just wierd.  If there are no items in the library it works, but it gives me all of the column info and that's what it lets me select.  As soon as I put an item in the library, blank page and the data connection doesn't work anymore.

This is what I get with en empty library

Could it be permission issue? Try to datamine SP logs. Check your permissions on all lookup lists related to your library.

Not a permissions issue.  I can select any field in the document library using the default datasource in SharePoint, with the exception of the name of a file.  This is the one field that I need though.  Asking in a SharePoint forum, they have suggested that I need to get the onetIDIOFile text value, but that is where their help ended.
