I have a quite simple InfoPath form on a network share that everyone but one client can open with no problem. The form has a few pull-down menus which look up information from a database on the back end, and that seems to be the trouble. When the user attempts to open the form on HIS computer only (he can open it fine from any other computer, logged-in as himself), we get this error:
InfoPath cannot create a new, blank form.
InfoPath cannot open the form. To fix this problem, contact your system administrator.
Form template: file///\\server\apps\form.xsn
The query cannot be run for the following DataObjects: PRF_Project_Leaders
InfoPath cannot run the specified query.
InfoPath cannot connect to the data source.
The connection cannot be created. Make sure that you have ADO version 2.5 or later installed.
I'm not sure how to even TROUBLESHOOT the error. I went into the design of the form and changed a setting to allow it to open even if it cannot reach the data sources, and then it will indeed open, but the pull-down menus are blank.
I tried to install ADO version 2.8 or so, and was told to knock it off, as it didn't apply to a Windows XP SP2 machine.
I also discovered something else, which might help solve this problem. I find the following behavior regarding connecting to the database server from this client computer:
1. I can ping it, and browse to it.
2. I can create a Data Connection (Administrative Tools) and it tests fine.
3. I CANNOT connect to it through Microsoft Excel 2007 by using the "Get Data From Other Sources" function. When I try to do so, after supplying the server name and either choosing "Windows Authentication" or supplying credentials, I get the following error:
"Unable to connect to data source. Reason: Unable to locate database server. Verify that the database server name you entered is correct, or contact the database administrator for help."
