    Can't Open Form on Network

While I was working on my form, I was having it tested by a co-worker who could access the network folder where I published it. Everything was going fine until today. Once I got all the formulas in it, I published it again. Now he can't open it. He gets the message:

InfoPath cannot create a new, blank form. InfoPath cannot open the form. To fix this problem contact your system Administrator.

Then when he clicks on Details it says: Form template: file:///\\199.190.1.23\brock$\Safety%20Forms\Inspection%20Forms\FAC%20Audit%20Form.xsn
InfoPath cannot open the selected form because of an error in the form's code.
Policy settings prevent opening Internet forms with managed code. To fix this problem, contact your system administrator.

I thought it may have been the last huge formula I inserted so I tried deleting it, but I get the same message. So apparently it's something else. What could cause this message?

    Thanks!

    Hi TBMedina,

My guess is that it's because you are using Forms Services and your InfoPath form now has managed code (per the warning) and SharePoint is complaining because you haven't activated the form. Browser enabled forms with code must be activated. Let us know if you don't know how to do that. Janice Thorne is planning a blog on that this week.

If you are using the rich client (i.e. it has nothing to do with browser forms), it's probably a security policy setting. Once again, the reason is that someone added code to your form. The solution here is to either remove code or change the network policy.

Removing code fixes either problem. Why do you need code in your form?

By "code" I am assuming you and the program are referring to formulas. That's the only thing I have embedded in function boxes. The reason for it is as the employee enters values into the form, calculations are done. These calculations can't be done by my database because it resides on my computer and not accessible to anyone else. They need to see the calculations and be able to print them out to give to the person they are auditing. That's the only way I could think of to do it.

I tried emailing the form yesterday. I haven't heard back yet as to whether or not they were able to open it and fill it out.

Thanks for explaing the security thing to me. I was thinking it probably had something to do with it. I'm publishing the form on a customer's network via a VPN.

It is really easy to accidentally add code to a form by adding an event handler, too.... you can go to Tools / Form Options / Programming (IP 2007) and select Remove Code -- the button will only be enabled if there is a code file associated with your form.

Thanks Hilary! That solved that problem. Now another one has been created.

Once the employee fills out the form and emails it back to me, I save the .xml file on my computer and I am unable to open it. I was able to before, then import it to Access.

    Any clues?

Re: Can't Open Form on Network

Here's the message that I'm getting when I try to open the form that has been emailed to me.

The form template associated with this form was moved or cannot be accessed. The form template "FAC Inspection Form" on your computer has the same form ID as the template associated with the form, but it is from a different location.

Location of this associated form template: \\ntcan1\brock$\Safety Forms\Inspection Forms\FAC Inspection form.xsn Original location of the form template on your computer: \\199.190.1.23\brock$\Safety Forms\Inspection Forms\FAC Inspection Form.xsn

Make sure you can access the location of the associated form template and try opening the form again. If that does not work, ask the form author to update the form.

The big thing I see here is that ntcan1 and 199.190.1.23 ARE the same location. One is the share name and one is the IP address. And what's really frustrating is that I AM the form author (LOL) but I don't know how to fix this.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

    Tammy
