    collect information fram a database

    Hello all,

I'm new here, and I'm trying to make something in Infopath.
I would like to create a form for our salesmen, who sell houses. These houses can be modified (like adding windows or something), and these modifications I would like to make selectable in a infopath form.

    I've made a datebase with tables, like:"measurements" & "roof".
In these tables I have 3 colums, column 1 is ID, column 2 is the description, and column 3 is the price (optional).

Now Infopath should have something like a drop-down list or a choice-menu to select and delete options.

    How can I do this?

     Thanks, Jeroen

(I had something working, but could only choose from single-lined text in a drop-down menu)

Hi Jeroen and welcome to the forum,

You can't easily delete a Database row from InfoPath (without writing code and it's a bad practice anyway), but you can set up a "select" dropdown on this. Make sure you have a receive data connect set up on the SQL table. Then, go to Design Tasks->Controls in the task pane of the designer and drag a dropdown from the task pane over to the view. Double click the new dropdown in the view and configure the dropdown to populate from the data connection you created. :)

If you have many rows in your DB, you should consider filtering using a Web Service. We offer a free trial of a Database Web Service that will also help you submit data to your database without writing any code: http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/DBXL.aspx

    Good luck!

    Hello,

    thanks for the reply!

Maybe I wasn't clear in questioning. What I want to have is a dorpdownlist (which I can do now) and with the selection you make in the list, several other text boxes should be filled with data depending on the choice in the dropdownlist.

    Small example:

    Database:
    A - apples - 2,50
    B - peach - 3,-

When you make selection A in the dropdownlist, the values "apples" and "2,50"should have to be filled in, in other textboxes. This function is very often used in Excel, but I can't get it to work in infopath?

    Thanks!

This blog entry by Ben Walters has a really nice explanation of how to do this. Why don't you check it out and see if it helps you?

Post back if you get stuck, okay?

    Hilary,

thanks again for your post. Really nice explanation there, will start practicing with this one!

I shall try to explain to you what I want to do with Infopath:

In the company i'm working, we sell houses. These houses can be modified by the buyers, in a variety of ways, like adding windows, choosing diffrerent materials and so on. Now, the salesmen/women who talk to the buyers, should prepare the customers-offer. So they would need a form, in which they can choose these options, then save the form and send it back to us (calculation) so we can calculate the options, add prices to it, and send it back tot sales, where they can print the forms, and mail them to our customers.

For the options, i've been thinking about drop-downlists, but came to the conclusion that items in a drop-downlist can contain only 1 line of text?
For some options, long descriptions are being used, so multiple lines would be neccesary.

Maybe someone has example forms to do something like this?

    Thanks in advance!
    Jeroen
