Moving infopath .xml file from extranet to intranet

    Hi,

I have a infopath project in which I have an "application form" to be published to extranet. I need to create another "recruitment form" based on 'Application form's data to be used in intranet. How should this be done?

My first idea was create identical data structure for both forms (in application forms data structure would then be lots of fields that are not used), and copy XML file with a workflow from extranet to intranet. Then in the intranet I could use 'relink document' to force the xml file to use 'Recruiting form's template instead of "Apllication form's" template. However this doesn't seem to work this way.  When I tested this idea, the relinking went without errors, but when I tried to open relinked xml file in the browser it prompted "The file has been closed"

Should 'relinking document' work this way? Could it be the solution and if yes, why it is not working for me?

    Thanks in advance,

    Valtteri

Or should I use sql table as a database?

Do you have any good ideas about how to trigger the application handling process in intranet when new application is submitted to the database from the extranet? I would like to know the best practises before I start designing the wheel again?

    Hello,

Whichever you re linked form should match the existing template.xml file otherwise it won't open. Are you trying to re link forms are created from existing template.xsn or not?

If you created forms are related to existing template.xsn then it will open automatically after re linking the form.

    Hi,

And thanks for your reply, but I am not sure if I understood you correct. Let me reshape my question a bit:

Is it possible to create a .xml file with form template1 (Application form in my example), and move it to another form library, change the content type and relink it to corresponding form template2 (Recruiting form in my example)?

It tried this and get strange error message: Could not find schema information for the element 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/myXSD/2009-01-21T10:53:09:myFields'

If this is not correct way to use xml data, what could be the solution to my problem? I need to transfer data submitted using 'Application form' in public zone to the intranet zone, and use the data in another -'Recruiting form'.

    Best regards,

If both Application form and Recruiting form are based on their own schemas, then simply trying to open a form from one template in the other template will not work.  If it wouldn't be too much work, the best approach would probably be to reconstruct Recruiting form using the schema from Application form.

    Thanks really much,

I created the simplier 'Application form' again based on 'Recruiting forms' schema. This works now.

My mistake in the first test was that I only copied the data source in the infopath from a form template to another, and did not create the new form template based on the same schema in the first place.

    Hi,

I still have question regarding this case. I am now able to use 'Recruiting form' template to open and edit the xml file created with 'Application form' form template, but the fields I have promoted to Sharepoint when publishing 'Recruiting form' dont appear in the form library.

I have published both form templates directly to the document library.

Also if I select 'Edit properties' in the xml-item the fields appear to be empty. If I try to add text to these fields through sharepoint, sharepoint prompts:

    Server Error in '/' Application.

Changes could not be saved into the document.

The property to change is read-only for the document's content type, or the document is missing XML elements or attributes where the changes would be saved. Try editing the document in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible XML editor such as Microsoft Office InfoPath.

Is there something wrong with my approach. Is it somehow possible to get the fields visible also in the form library.

    BR,

    Valtteri
