I'm trying to preformat a text box so that a user can just type 9 digits and only digits. Anyone know a way this can be done? The hypens should not be able to be erase or deleted or moved.

We can add the custom validation like how user should be entering that value. In this case we have to give one example of giving input values of SSN number. Otherwise we can add the one more expression box to beside the text box. If user enters the value in text box then we will show your SSN format in that expression. If that expression is not matches then we will give the validation.

We can add a validation using the custom patterns so that if the user enters the wrong format (other than SSN) you can let the user to enter correct format by showing a screen tip.

For this follow the below steps.

1. Go to data validation of the text box.

2. Click Add. Select the text box field in the first drop down, does not match pattern in second drop down and select social security number from the standard patterns. Click ok.

3. Write the screen tip that you want to display to the user when he enters wrong format.
