My form has number fields that can be filled out or left blank. While testing, my user accidentally put a number in a field, then deleted it.

His comments:  When I change a number the box turns red and will not upload unless I put a 0 in the box.

How can I fix this?

Can you verify that, are you using any data validation for that Number field.

You need to add an attribute xsi:nil="true"  to that Number element in the mysceham.xsd file.This will solve your problem.

I'm intrigued. Where do I find that file, or how do I get to it?

I'm not. The only thing is I'm making the default value 0. Of course, after you enter a number or blank that out, it's empty again.

If you set it to default value as 0 will not work.you need to add an attribute xsi:nil="true"  to that Number element in the mysceham.xsd file.

1.Open infopath form in design mode.

2.Go to File-> Save as Source FIles..

3.Create a folder in local drive and Browse to the created folder.

4.Click OK.

5.Open myschema.xsd in VS from the Source Files.

6.add an attribute xsi:nil="true"  to that Number element.

7.Save the file.

Once verify that ‘cannot be blank' check box is unchecked in the text box properties.

I got so far as to create the file. But I don't have VS on my computer - only the debugger.

No need of VS to open the schema file. You can open that in any text editor (ex: Notepad).
