So, I think I want to clarify something here - I know in a previous thread, I mentioned that qRules does not work with list forms, but I think I'm just not being as clear as I could be.
First - to talk about the current the form structure you've got:
csigler:I have two SharePoint Lists - Parent and Child. Parent list has customized InfoPath form with Data Connection to Receive from Child, then dropped in a Repeating Table into the parent form with this data. Works great... looks great.... But my Repeating Table Controls are not there nor can I activate them in the properties.
The thing is - that repeating child data is going to be just display only in your form. Secondary data connections will not save data back to their source. So, you can open your form, and it all looks good - but if you change an item in that child data, it won't get submitted back to its list. This is why you can't insert an item and so forth. InfoPath is only ever going to submit data in the main data source (barring the addition of code - which is simply not an option in a customized list form).
So - customized list forms cannot have code added. qRules is code. InfoPath (generally) doesn't do what you need it to do without code or qRules - which means you aren't going to be able to use a customized list form for this.
In order to do what you want to do (manage parent and child list data from a single InfoPath form), you would need to:
-
Start with a new blank form from InfoPath designer. Not a list form - but the "Blank Form" template option. So, you'd open InfoPath Designer, and select Blank Form
-
In the form, add logic to copy the secondary data into the main data source - this is one of the place you can use qRules - you may have one or more rows of data from the child list to copy into the form, and qRules can give you a rule based way to insert rows to your main data source
-
In the form, have fields for the Parent and Child item IDs - so qRules can update existing items for you, instead of just creating new
-
In the form, use the qRules SubmitToSharePointList command to get the form to actually update / add the list items
As far as just the basics of how qRules works, in the documentation that installs with it (you can find this from your start menu shortcuts), there is Quick Start - it may be worth giving that a walkthrough first, so you can see generally how it works.
I hope this helps with some of the confusion!
