Help!!: Errors occurred submitting to Sharepoint list - previous posts' resolution not working

I am getting the following error in my forms: Errors occurred submitting to list: Failed to select node for SharePoint List Id: (the ID number variable).

After seeing the posts previously on your boards regarding this issue, I have remapped my data connection from a web based InfoPath form to a sharepoint list (using Qdabra InfoPath to SharePoint list tool) to make sure that I have all of my fields from the form to the sp list correct.

I am running SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. The infopath form is an admin-form template that is uploaded to the server. I have about 5 different mappings/submissions on the form to different SP lists.

I have been testing everytime I upload the form to make sure that the mappings are working. The only time I upgrade is when I have been adding another submit button for a group of data/fields in the form.

However, all of a sudden, I keep getting this error. And it is not consistant, I will get the error from one filled out form and not for another using the same upgraded template and submit buttons. So, I am genuinely confused on why that is. Don't all the forms, that are already saved on SP get upgraded with the SP form template? And I think they do, and are using the same form template and the same code for mappings submit buttons, why don't i get the error consistantly?

    Thank you in advance.

Can you attach your template under the options tab or send to Support AT Qdabra DOT com and reference this thread? I'd like to take a look at your logic.

Hi - got your file, thanks.

So, I want to explain the point of the /id parameter, because I think, looking at your form, that there may be a misunderstanding there.

When we submit an item to a SharePoint List, SharePoint generates a unique id for the item - 1, 2, 3, etc. Each number is only used one time per list. qRules will populate the field indicated with the ID from that list, and then the ID can be used to link items in your XML to their list item - so if you update your form, your list item will be updated.

However, in your form, you are using the exact same field for the /id parameter in all of your submits. So, if the user submits to one list, the id field in your form will be populated with that ID. Then, they submit to another list, with the same ID parameter - now qRules is trying to find that list item in the other list.

That is - you submit from the XML to your Flooring Work Order list. qRules populates the /my:myFields/my:id field with the ID of that new item - let's pretend it is item 14.

Now, you try to submit from the XML to your Roofing Work Order list. You've indicated via the /id paramter that /my:myFields/my:id is your ID field. qRules will take that into account when submitting to the Roofing Work Order list, and assume since you have a value in that field (14, from your previous submit to the other list) that you are trying to update the Roofing Work Order list item 14 instead of creating a new item.

It may be that for your form, you don't need the /id paramter at all - perhaps you just want to add items to your list and not be able to update them. But if you do need the XML attached to the list, you'll need a separate ID field in your form for each list.

Okay that makes total sense. I will add the other ID fields for each list and get back to you. I am sure it will work.

As always, so helpful and responsive.

Okay, that worked great! THANK YOU.

But now I am getting this error: Errors occurred sumbitting to list: Invalid text value. A text field contains invalid data.

Now the user who filled out the form is a novelist. I am thinking that it is because there can only be 255 char in a text box? Also do the char that are used make a difference. She uses @ and & symbols in these text boxes. Originally the text boxes were only to be used for little extra notes that they needed. Now, it has morphed into them using it for alot of notes.

If so, is my resolution to break out and add mulitple text boxes to cover the novel that she writes - each text box she can put in 255 char (I will create a rule that stops her from adding too many) or should I make the control different for these particular text boxes - I wasn't sure if this was an issue and limitation to sharepoint to bring that sort of data over to a list.

Re: Help!!: Errors occurred submitting to Sharepoint list - previous posts' resolution not working

I haven't seen this error before - so I gave it a try - and I can use all kinds of characters, but if I go over 248 characters, I get the same error (which - like you, I thought the limit was 255? My test is on Office 365 though, perhaps something is different there). Some of my special characters end up encoded, however.

So, I changed my list column to multiple lines of text and set it to plain text. Problem solved - I could submit all my characters, and my & symbols were no longer encoded. So you might just want to change your column type in your list.
