    Data Connection file not found... but exists in the store

    I have a relatively simple browser enabled form which connects to two webservices to retrieve (read) data from SQL2005. These webservice data connections have been 'converted' from InfoPath and stored in a central location in MOSS (http://server/Sales%20Data%20Connections). In the InfoPath Data Connections dialogue they show clearly that the Connection Source is http://server/ (link type: store)

    They appear as this in the library:

    Name:   SA-getCustomerInfoPerID.udcx
    Content Type:  Universal Data Connection
    File Format:  UDC V2; Connection Type: WebService; Purpose: ReadOnly; Generated by Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 on 2008-02-29 at 15:20:39 by DOMAIN\username.
    Connection Type: WebService
    Status:  Approved

    Name:   SA-GetCustomerPerSalesmanLoginName.udcx
    Content Type:  Universal Data Connection
    File Format:  UDC V2; Connection Type: WebService; Purpose: ReadOnly; Generated by Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 on 2008-02-29 at 15:27:26 by DOMAIN\username.
    Connection Type: WebService
    Status:  Approved

    The form template is installed (approved) in MOSS at Central Administration > Application Management > Manage Form Templates and activated to the site collection (http://server)
    The form library uses the corresponding Site Content Type which is automatically published.

    Accessing the form it opens in the browser and fails with 'An error occurred accessing a data source.'

    The MOSS logs for the corresponding time show:

    02/29/2008 15:45:40.81  w3wp.exe (0x0F0C)                        0x09A8 Forms Server                   Forms Services Data Objects    7tfk Medium   Data adapter failed during OnLoad: The data connection file SA-GetCustomerPerSalesmanLoginName.udcx is not found in the server store.

    However, the data connection file IS in the store, and IS approved. All access is currently using the System Account with full admin access.

    I can't find any other information in the logs to help troubleshoot this... anyone have any ideas??

    Two thoughts:

    1. Maybe the form template is pointing to the right web service in the data connection, but to the wrong server?

    2. Verify that there is not some strange error in the UDC file. What it completely auto-generated, or was there any manual editing done to it?

    Both data connections were published directly from InfoPath. There was no manual editing.

    The data connection xml looks like this:

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
      <?MicrosoftWindowsSharePointServices ContentTypeID="0x010100B4CBD48E029A4ad8B62CB0E41868F2B0"?>
    - <udc:DataSource MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0" xmlns:udc="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2006/udc">
      <udc:Name>SA-Webservice: SA-getCustomerInfoPerID</udc:Name>
      <udc:Description>Format: UDC V2; Connection Type: WebService; Purpose: ReadOnly; Generated by Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 on 2008-02-29 at 15:20:39.</udc:Description>
    - <udc:Type MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0" Type="WebService">
      <udc:SubType MajorVersion="0" MinorVersion="0" Type="" />
      </udc:Type>
    - <udc:ConnectionInfo Purpose="ReadOnly" AltDataSource="">
      <udc:WsdlUrl>http://server:10101/webservice.asmx?WSDL</udc:WsdlUrl>
    - <udc:SelectCommand>
      <udc:ListId />
      <udc:WebUrl />
      <udc:ConnectionString />
      <udc:ServiceUrl UseFormsServiceProxy="false">http://server:10101/webservice.asmx</udc:ServiceUrl>
      <udc:SoapAction>http://server:10101/getCustomerInfoPerID</udc:SoapAction>
      <udc:Query />
      </udc:SelectCommand>
    - <udc:UpdateCommand>
      <udc:ServiceUrl UseFormsServiceProxy="false" />
      <udc:SoapAction />
      <udc:Submit />
      <udc:FileName>Specify a filename or formula</udc:FileName>
      <udc:FolderName AllowOverwrite="" />
      </udc:UpdateCommand>
    - <!--
    udc:Authentication><udc:SSO AppId='' CredentialType='' /></udc:Authentication
      --> f(clean);
      </udc:ConnectionInfo>
      </udc:DataSource>

    Re: Data Connection file not found... but exists in the store

    Out of curiosity I tried accessing the form template in InfoPath from: http://server/FormServerTemplates  and got this error:

    ‘The file or folder name ‘http://server/_layouts/GetDataConnectionFile.aspx?Udc=SA-GetCustomerPerSalesmanLoginName.udcx&Urn=urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:infopath:Customer-Visit-Report-v-1-3-1cwp:myXSD-2008-01-28T12-55-20&Version=1.0.0.243’ contains characters that are not permitted. Enter a different name.

    On OK'ing that I get:

    The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: SA-Webservice: getCustomersPerSalesmanLoginName
    InfoPath cannot run the specified query.
    Access to the connection file
    http://server/_layouts/GetDataConnectionFile.aspx is denied.

    Which characters are not permitted?? And where do the permission dependencies need to be set??

    The part that stands out as not belonging is the "f(clean);" text. Why is that in there? Everything else appears to be valid XML except for this. Try removing it and uploading the .udcx file without the "f(clean);" text in there.

    I removed that but still no joy.

    So, I bit the bullet and started from scratch - republished the whole lot including the converted webservices. Works fine now :)
    The converted webservices no longer contain the f(clean) entry so it must have been something else.

    Just need to fix a couple of other small functions then it's good to go. Thanks for your feedback!

    If you get a chance to diff the old and new connections to see what changed, I'd love to know about it. It seems like this comes up fairly frequently lately.

    I've also seen a few people withthe f(clean) statement in their data connection XML. I wonder where that comes from?

    User derekhubbard is having a similar issue in the follwing thread. Perhaps you can offer assistance there?

    Re: Data Connection file not found... but exists in the store

    There are two kinds of store. You can choose them when you convert or modify your Data Connection in Infopath.

    When you choose:

     - local Data Connection Library

     then the udcx File has to be stored in the "Data Connections" Library of your Site

    - central managed Data Connection Library

      then the udcx File has to be stored under Central Administration > Application Management > Manage Data Connection Files
