repeating section and count function help

    Hi All

I hope someone can help me or my PC is going to find out what damage a sledgehammer can do!

I have created an infopath form with a repeating section, within this I have a drop down field with several options, this drop down is repeated for each day of the month, (I’m doing a timesheet form) Please see the screen shot below to show what I am talking about.

Is there a way that I can count the selections chosen so I can summarise it? i.e. so it counts the number of times W, PW, N/A etc occur? I'm pretty sure the count function could be utilised in some way to achieve this but I have had no joy so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You're right; the count function CAN be used. I'm attaching a simple example form to illustrate how to do it.

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Ernesto

Thankyou for your reply and the attachment, you have solved the issue I had perfectly - is there any chance of supplying the formula used for this? the attached form you sent won't let me view the formula in the field.

    Thanks

    Hi,

    The formula is count(my:group1/my:group2[my:field1 = "A"])

    Hi ErnestoM,

I have a similar requirement issue but a little different. Hoping you can help with the formula.

My repeating table has a drop-down (field1) with about 80 items to choose from; used for inventory.  Do you know a formula I could use that will show the items chosen and how many times? Rather than listing all 80 items in the count(my:group1/my:group2[my:field1 = "x"]) formula.  My need for this is because there are so many different choices in the drop-down being used.

So if "Red" is selected 15 times in the repeating table, "Blue" is selected 2 times, "Green" is selected 30 times, Yellow is selected 7 times, the output would be:

    Red - 15
    Blue - 2
    Green - 30
    Yellow - 7

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi ErnestoM,

I have a similar requirement issue but a little different. Hoping you can help with the formula.

My repeating table has a drop-down with about 80 items to choose from; used for assigning jobs roles.  Do you know a formula I could use that will display the items chosen and how many times? Rather than listing all 80 items in the count(my:group1/my:group2[my:field1 = "x"]) formula.  My need for this is because there are so many different choices in the drop-down being used.

     For example:
If I have 2 people assigned to job RED, 2 assigned to job BLUE, 1 assigned to GREEN... the desired output in a text field would be

    RED - 2; BLUE - 2; GREEN - 1

Thanks for any help you can provide.

     Hi

If I have understood your problem correctly, the following formula should work: -

count(../my:group1/my:group2[my:field5 = "red"]) then just repeat the formula in different text boxes but with the different colours in the " " .

I have attached a file which shows what I did, its a repeating field with text summary boxes underneath that count the number of times each colour is selected.

    hope this helps!

This is almost what I'm looking for. However, I won't be able to use this method because I have 80 different choice possiblities in the drop-down (colors).  This would mean I'd have to have 80 boxes on the form, each one with a different color in the formula.  I'm hoping to get a formula that would fill in the box with a color as it's chosen and a count of how many times that color is chosen.

For example: If I choose RED, GREEN, RED, RED, BLUE, RED it would show

    RED - 4; GREEN - 1; BLUE - 1

Re: repeating section and count function help

    Hi,

I'm working on some sort of checklist which is categorize into different name. I uses  Section and I inserted  4 column table for each name, I wasn't able to use repeating table because of some default text on the first column, What I'd like to do is to count how many times PASS and FAIL had chosen in a Section. I added button and tried to use COUNT to get the total number of occurrences of PASS and FAIL in a section, it works only for particular field but not in a section. Any idea how can I make it work using Count function or other formula?... Thanks in advance!
