Browser Form - If left idle for 10 minutes, submit button fails

We have a form that takes several minutes to fill in. If the user takes too long in completing the form when they click on the button an error pops up.

Is there any way to debug this or find out why it sometimes fails to submit to the qdabrawebservice?

Could you attach a screenshot or the text of the error message? Also, please check if eventvwr has recorded any additional information.

One way to debug with IPFS is to change the form library settings to open the form in InfoPath. When the error is reproducible in InfoPath, we usually get a better error message. The IPFS error messages are quite short.

    Thanks for the additional information.

The error message is "error submitting form" in a pop up box. There is no information in the eventvwr.

Just though someone may have  heard about a similar issue before specific to forms timing out after a period.

I can't find a previous instance of this situation, unfortunately. If you set the form library to open the form in InfoPath (not the browser) does the error reproduce?

The other thing we should check is the submit data connection in your form. Would it be possible to attach a stripped down version of your XSN? I would just need to see the submit data connection (to DBXLDocumentService).

    Thanks.

you might need to configure infopath form services and change the default connection time out settings. to do so

go to your central admin -> Application Management->  configure infopath form services

change the default connection time out settings, by default it is 10000ms, set it to something higher and see if that helps

Re: Browser Form - If left idle for 10 minutes, submit button fails

Thanks folks, that is something I will try.

I believe the issue is with the double clicking of the submit button. On first click, a message pops up "You have made changes to the form that have not been processed. We will process the changes and show the form again. After that you have to click "Submit" again".   On the second submit, the users are possibly clicking the submit button twice which seems to sometimes show the error pop up mentioned earlier.

Now, I've deselected the option to "Refresh the form before submitting it if form data might change during processing" under Form Options - Browser. This seems to make the submit button much smoother with only a single click required.

What do you think of that step? Will deselecting that option break anything else?

If we continue to experience the error I will force the form to open in Infopath to see a more detailed error.

Problem solved, no more errors on submit. Here is an update to help anyone else with this issue in the future.

    1) There was a proxy server set in Internet Explorer and the Sharepoint URL was not in the bypass list. Make sure you bypass the proxy when using Qdabrawebservices.

    2) Open Sharepoint central Administration - Application Management - Configure InfoPath Forms Services and Make the following changes:

    Default Data Connection Timeout: 60000

    Maximum data connection timeout: 60000

Number of postbasks per form session state: 200

Number of Actions per postback: 400

Maximum size of form session state: 4096

Select the location to use the storing form session state: Set this radio button to "form view"

    3) Open the Infopath form in design mode and click on "Form Options" - "Browser".  Deselect the option to "Refresh the form before submitting it if form data might change during processing"

    Hi infopathman,

Nice job of figuring this one out. Hopefully it'll help others in the future.

One final question: what does your submit button do? Does it submit via the DBXLDocumentService?

If so, I'd like to move this post to the Qdabra DBXL forum. The Active Directory Web Service doesn't have a submit operation, so it's a bit confusing to have this information here.

    Thanks.
