Sort Repeating Data in Browser-enabled Form

In a nutshell, I have a form used to set up a proprietary, data-driven "slide-show" for our marketing department. One of the aspects of this is that there will be a repeating group, with each instance/node representing the attributes of an individual slide. The stakeholder wants to be able to sort these slides (ostensibly using an index number as a "sort value"), since they might need to be re-arranged after the data is input. From what I've gleaned on this site, it sounds like it MIGHT be possible by editing the view/XLS file, using a combination of xls:sort and Preserve Code block. (I'm trying o convince him to use Filler, but that approach is currently presenting it's own authentication issues when trying to submit on our SPO site.) I have never edited XML in that fashion before, and wold like to know whether the experts here think it's a lost cause (i.e. stick with Filler) or whether it's worth pursuing. Thanks in advance!

Is your SharePoint site on premises? Or is it Office 365 / SharePoint Online? If it is on premises, you could use C# code (or qRules) for your sorting in a browser form. In general, browser forms are much less tolerant of manual modification, so I would suspect that you will have trouble with a preserve code block in one - but haven't tried that myself. I tend to just sort in code or use qRules with an xslt to transform data I need sorted.

Thanks, Hillary. Unfortunately (???) it's SPO... and they don't allow me to publish forms with code. That's why I was hoping that jerry-rigging the XSL would do the trick, even if it meant the user wouldn't see it sort until the next time it was opened. Situation Update: After working with Ian K. from Microsoft, and the ubiquitous Fiddler utility, it seems that--at least in my situation--Filler is not passing any authentication tokens when initially Submitting the form, although it does if I use the Preview mode to test the Submit. If THIS is resolved, the question is moot. (Or it's moot until I roll off the project in two weeks!)
