Ok, finally there's the concluison to all of this: The xml node corresponding to a section in a new form has no children nodes, so the controls that bind to such nodes remain as read only. I've tried defining a default value for those controls, but no joy so far.
Guess, I'll have to forget about using sections.

Ok, after some more research seems that the problem is in the Infopath template.
We couldn't open another template using a XmlFromView while everything went right if we used it directly from Sharepoint. Turned out that the template was made by opening in desing mode an existing one and after some modification saving it with a different ...
