Thanks for the response.  I had been thinking about that solution.  I was kind of hoping for something more straightforward, but I think that will work fine.  Once it is set up it will be easy for the users to use.    

I have a form connected to an Access primary data source. I am trying to submit an edit to an existing record without first querying the database.  I can add a new record or querying an existing record but when I query a record it overwrites whatever is already on the form.
