If I have trouble with the IF statement I might try this idea. Thanks. Posted to Newbie Questions (Forum) by mikeg on 09-16-2006 Re: Run Query Rules These suggestions and clarifications are appreciated. I plan to try them out over the weekend. Sorry to say however, that I don't know what a ''trigger field'' is and I don't see anything in InfoPath help. Maybe I know the concept by another name. A simple example might help. Thanks. Posted to Newbie Questions (Forum) by mikeg on 09-15-2006 Re: Run Query Rules Okay, that's the perspective I was looking for. As a relative beginner, I wasn't sure how Rules interact with Custom Code. From what you guys are saying Rules never prevent custom code from running (unless maybe I specify some action like ''close the form''). So, my custom code must check conditions independantly of or instead of using rules. I ... Posted to Newbie Questions (Forum) by mikeg on 09-14-2006 Re: Run Query Rules trufooser, ''Stop processing rules when rule finishes'' is indeed checked. That was the first thing I looked for. But I really appreciate the reply. The problem is not that subsequent rules are firing. My problem is the custom code still runs even when a rule fails. It may be a simple problem with my custom code, but I haven't had time to dabble ... Posted to Newbie Questions (Forum) by mikeg on 06-07-2006 Re: Run Query Rules To put it more plainly: How do I prevent a query from running if a query field is blank or contains an invalid value? In the Run Query button properties, I have a rule that fires when the search criteria is blank or invalid. Now add an Action to send an error msg. This is working fine. But, after clicking OK on the msg dialog, InfoPath goes ahead ... Posted to Newbie Questions (Forum) by mikeg on 06-06-2006 Run Query Rules I have a ''Run Query'' button with it's Action set to ''Rules and Custom Code''. I have a rule that if an ID field is blank, send a message like ''You must enter a value!'' The message works fine. The problem is, InfoPath runs the query anyway! I don't see any action available under Rule/Add Action to stop InfoPath from running the query with a ... Posted to Newbie Questions (Forum) by mikeg on 06-06-2006 Re: Get data from secondary connection We decided to create a standalone form for querying patient records because it's a needed function on its own. Since I'm no longer using a secondary connection, I'll summarize and then move out of this thread. I used a combination of Matt's How To ''Create a Multi-View Master/Detail using a Query Filter'' (very helpful!) and Microsoft's article ... Posted to Data Connections (Forum) by mikeg on 05-26-2006 Re: Get data from secondary connection Matt, as you can see I just started posting here and I like this forum already! I understand a static query filter can be used in the adapter SQL, but we need dynamic query parameters. To be more clear, users will need to enter a customerID OR First and Last Name OR SSN in order to pull one record or just a couple of records at most from the ... Posted to Data Connections (Forum) by mikeg on 05-23-2006 Re: Get data from secondary connection Wow, that was a world record quick response! Thanks Chris. I left out an important dimension to my case. The secondary data source connects to a SQL Server table with over 20,000 records. Using it to populate fields in the main data source is impractical for the user and brings InfoPath to it's knees performance wise. Without a custom script ...
