Prachi, thank you for the response. I was hoping to not have to update the field type at this point and was looking for a formula/function-based solution. The project launched, so I will need to wait until it's completed before I can make modifications for the next round. Thanks again for your response!! 

I have a field in an InfoPath form that is writing to a text field in a SharePoint 2010 list.  I have the field setup up to accept numbers with the following formula to force the behavior needed:  round((shares * price) * 100) / 100 My question is how do a get the result to include a comma in the normal thousands place?  ...

 Thanks Bre and snturner for leading me in the right direction.  I finally got this working with the use of Rules!  Works like a charm.  Part of my issue was that the fields were calculated fields - which don't work with Rules as needed (I didn't know that at first).  Converting these fields to Text type fields ...
