I have done something similar using additional fields, once you submit a document set a field value to indicate document is in Library; And in Form Load hide the submit button for that condition.. hope that solves your problem.  

 I am new to Infopath as well, but i would do the following things 1. Create secondary data connection to the list; 2. set the values of  the secondary data connection. 3. Execute the secondary data connection.   hope that helps :)
