I solved my problem by changing the font in the text box that was being printed.  The default font type was not one directly supported by the printer.  Once I changed the font to Arial then everything printed as expected.  Hope that help for you.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am currently trying it out with the GenerateGuid command and it looks as though it will work well.  Just have to train the users that the numbers mean nothing other than a unique id rather than wanting a simple sequential numbering sequence.

If I copy the shortcut from the form and paste it into the address bar, I get the same error.  If a copy shortcut from document library, the document opens directly.  I had my co-worker test it on his machine just now and the link from the form is giving the same error.  We are running IE 9
