I'm publishing to the Sharepoint site. I was able to resolve the problem by changing it from a place holder to default value and re-adding the fields with merge selected from within Infopath design.

I've been tinkering around for a couple of hours now and can't figure out why after a import of my forms I created in word that some of my tables that have 3 or more rows become repeated tables in Infopath and others that are exactly the same do not become repeating tables in Infopath.
