I have a drop down list that uses a secondary data connection (SQL DB) to provide "customer names" for my infopath form user. If they select a simple name like "AAA Signs" the form submits to SPList with no error. If they select a customer name with the character "&" in the name (i.e. "Father & Son ...

That was the issue. The promoted fields in the SPLibrary were overriding the values from the SPList. One last question. Is it necessary to have the ID field present in the form or only the datasource? Thank you for your help.

After I submit I get the normal success message and I can see the List Field ID. If I close the form and reopen it to edit, the List Field ID is gone. It seems like it makes the initial submission but doesn't call back the submitted list items. Under my submit rules I only have two items     1. Submit using data connection: ...

ok. I get the ID of my list item.But if I change a field after the initial submission I get a new submission. I doesn't update the item.

Do I need a "receive" data connection from the SPlist as well?

Using the example above I get the following error.   "Failed to select node for Sharepoint List ID"

Yes I'm using qRules.  So just that I'm clear. I replace the parameter shown in your blog (/id=my:id) with the full Xpath to my specific ID (i.e. /my:RMADetail/my:RMAItems/my:item/my:ID).

Hillary,  In your "Submit to Sharepoint List" blog you mentioned adding an optional "List Item ID" field to update the sharepoint list versus adding the item. Can you offer any detail on this? I added the field as you instructed but I'm not sure what value it needs.  Thank you in advance. Randy
