Thank you, so my only other solution is to not use a browser based info path form?

Unfortunately a filter is not a very good choice for us - we need our users to be able to choose from all of the items in the database.  Would it be better to render the items differently? maybe not use a drop down box?  Thanks again.

I have a browser enabled form pulling 4700 records from a SQL database. I have converted the connection to a udcx in a data connection library for SharePoint.
