Thanks for your help!!! That was at least part of the problem. Now the name displays on the form instead of a gray box. However when the form is emailed it still arrives as a black box.

i have created an InfoPath form to be submitted by email. One of the fields is a contact selector. The form is emailed and received fine however when the contact selector is used to pick a name instead of displaying the name the field goes all gray.
