You should ''publish'' the form to a network shared directory, and then users can have a shortcut to this XSN. Double-clicking this shortcut will open the form for fill out.
It says ''Form1'' because that is the default name of the file that you save after filling out the form - much like when you open Word the name is ''Document1'', etc. ...

Sounds good to me! It does make sense to have all your data validation in one place (InfoPath). I know you will find DBXL to be of great help to your endeavor!

If the dropdowns are in a repeating section they will use the same data source. You could use a filter but that would require downloading everything on load. Another option is to use the taskpane and have the values copied over into the view.
With the SQL query in code, you will have to have SQL Client ...

The Convert Main Data Source algorithm is very intelligent but not perfect. It could also just be an issue of hitting a limitation. If what Shalaja says isn't the issue for you then you should be able to just right-click and fix the binding manually.
