Yeah - you can manually modify the rule in the manifest - here's a blog post on that. What version of qRules are you using?

This command should be iterative - that is, it should set all instances - mind you - it will set them all to whatever Need[Item=Item] is at the time the command is run. Anything in the error node? Can you test with a hardcoded value (like /value=Test) and see if all instances of Need get set where the GearId matches?

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your resolution to the issue and what you learned! I'm sure this is going to help someone else - and I'm glad you got it figured out. :-)

You are very correct in the limitation of this approach. But in InfoPath, we can't use rules to insert instances of a repeating group - which is why it takes code (or qRules, if you prefer not to write the code yourself). If it were me, I'd be using qRules - I'd have the info in a secondary data source (SharePoint list, XML file in a ...

I'll get Marci in touch with you.

Hi, Michael, per our email on this, I believe you solved this? Apparently a republish of the form did this - I'm actually wondering if the user maybe had a cached version where the link field wasn't a promoted property.

I just put over 1,000 chars in one in IP 2010 and that didn't phase it. So, I doubled it, and pasted that in - and while the control made no complaint, it truncated it to 1246 chars.

What field is the rule set on? And what is the repeating group in your main data source? You need to replace the repeating group with "current":
../my:UnitSize * xdXDocument:GetDOM("Technical Unit Types & Complexity")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/dfs:Technical_Unit_Types/@Complexity_-_Low[../@Unit_Type = ...
