This may be too late , but if it helps someone else:
My project is much like yours, except I have a need to send my data to a SQL db in addition to a SPList. During the form load even, I populate a hidden field with a GUID.Upon a coded submit, If my:requestID is null, I'll call a webservice to perform a db insert with basic header info, ...

Yes - there is a hack way around this. I perform all my submits in code, to both a SQL db and SPList.
Set your: Tool - Submit Options to send data to a fake webservice. Then under Advanced, choose After submit: "Close the form"
The webform will go away.
Too bad, this won't work when opened with ...

Hey oldradio99,
You can do this with custom data validation. In the Data Source task pane, double-click on the field that you want to conditionally set as required, and then then go the the Data Validation tab. You can construct the condition there using IS NOT BLANK.
Hope this helps!

Hi GaAs,
InfoPath includes an International Expense Report form as a sample, which implements exactly what you are talking about. Maybe you can just modify this example to suit your needs. Check it out!

Hi Kathryn,
The xdImage namespace is most likely buried within one of the DLLs Microsoft has made to make InfoPath run. You could try searching around to see where it is stored and try to use that DLL in your project, but my guess is that it will be fairly difficult. If you can get it reverse engineered, let us know! I'd sure be impressed!

I am having a brain gas bubble (being politically correct).
Using IP 2003
I have a field that I want to say is not required if another field is not
blank. In other words, make field 2 required if field 1 is blank. And
conversely, if field 1 is not blank, fields 2 is not required.
Rule? Validation?

For sections, you can specify not to include the XML by default from within their properties dialog box. Try checking there.

Hi,
I tried following Matt's suggestion regarding having it default to "Please Select" in the drop down box, but it still defaults to the blank 'value'. What am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
