To stop a duplicate ID numer being entered set the field in the database to not allow duplicates, that should stop the submit being successful. One other point, for speed you might want to separate out the views into forms of their own, so one form for add an author, one form for add a book and so on.

I think I can find a way around this, firstly change the sumbit button to run on rules and code and add a rule to set a fields value to say HIDE. Then go into the conditional formatting of the button to say Hide if your field says HIDE. That is the first job done.

I am attempting the same thing, however this is problematic when the multiple dropdown boxes are within a repeating section. If you have more than one instance of the section, modifications to one section will affect the other.
