I have a form library, where the user clicks a button on the form, and a secondary submit data connection is triggered and the form is submitted to a secondary form library, while leaving the form open.  Oh that is going to be tricky - because of the two different data sources, both repeating data, and InfoPath doesn't out of the box offer any way to merge things. We sometimes use show / hide formatting to work around this - so your "previous" data would only show on a button click and you can query specifically for it..... ...

 How do users find the items they wish to edit? In the list itself? I'm wondering about having a link to the item w/ the source param appended in the list for them to click to open the edit form, so you could use a calculation to get the right ID for the URL.

Well I will have to try this at another time. My boss just ordered me to remake the form for the environment. If I get some time I will see if I can do this and how to go about it.
