Wow - I'm totally confused as to what you are trying to do. Please feel free to attach your form when you try again (under the Options tab) and we'll see if we can give you hand. Basically, you want rules that:
Change the REST URL
Execute the query for the REST data connection that you changed the URL for in step 1
Do whatever ...
-
You would use a concat formula to set the URL, and it would look something like this:
concat("http://URL/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?CS=65001&XMLDATA=1&RowLimit=0&List={5166419E-2DB1-4EA4-8911-FC12ADE6D57A}&View={13217A3C-60A8-4FA9-9662-7BBD1EB19FC8}&XMLDATA=TRUE&FilterField1=@ows_ID&FilterValue1=", Path to the field ...

I just wanted to add - I'd not realized this, but Jimmy pointed out in email that:
...a REST connection in InfoPath was just any service that returns XML based on the URL it's passed
So, if you are needing just basic equivalency, owssvr.dll is probably a great way to go! OData is great for more complex queries - if you check out the ...

I must not be being very clear.
Yes, this can be done. You'll need to use a field for a counter - I think the original document I directed you to does that?
You'll need to use multiple filters, like I mentioned in another earlier post - like group/repeatingGroup[ID = 1][1]/field
So, the filter for the correct ID, and then your counter.
-
Nope - it is because your form is IP 2007 - it would need to be 2010 to have the query fields.
-
If you look at the fields task pane for your SharePoint List data connection - do you see the Query fields? Are you using IP 2010 as well? You can use those for equivalency queries - set the SynopsisID query field to the form's SynopsisID and then execute the query to return only the rows that match.
-
Are you using SharePoint 2010? If so, can you use the query fields to get back just the data you need?
You'll still need to use some kind of counter to loop through the items - even if you are filtering on the SynopsisID - since the XPath you are using will only ever get the ID of the first Metrics node from your Metrics list.
-
I think you are right - that you need to either filter the data being returned (not sure what is providing your secondary data, so I can't really speak to that) or you need to use an additional filter when you are setting the value - like group/repeatingGroup[ID = 1][1]/field to get a field value from the first instance of your repeating group ...

I'm so sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about. What is the sample you found? What do the dots above stand for?
You need to create a REST connection to the SharePoint OData service. Then you can change the REST URL in your form to pass in form values, and requery the data source.
To learn more about OData, start here. Here's ...
