Exactly, that is why you should setup a submit data connection. Set the location (network folder - so everyone knows where to look) or maybe My Documents) and construct a filenaming scheme. Maybe concat(managername, "-" date) or something like that. They click save and they are done.

All created in native IP 2003 I checked the properties on the field and the attribute is as follows:
Description (Optional attribute field)
Maximum length: 100
Default value: [@Description]
But I have no idea how to change this to longer than 100

You might be just hitting some obscure bugs or limitations of InfoPath - after all this is pretty advanced stuff which uses an undocumented feature (who would have known that eval() actually returns an xml tree?)
