I'm calling my code from OnSubmitRequest, so I don't think I can use it again. Here is my current code. How do I reuse OnSubmitRequest?

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies and advice.

It might be expecting <RootNode>...data...</RootNode> and is instead receiving <SomeOtherRootNode>...data...</SomeOtherRootNode> (i.e. different names).

InfoPath can be really picky about doing things at the same time you are switching views. When I say at the same time, I mean in one total transaction (all the rules and code the run as the result of a button click or whatever).
As an example... you are trying to switch views and then export. Likely, if it works, your export will be the original ...

You were close: dMyDate.ToString("yyy-MM-dd") is missing one "y".
The easier method is dMyDate.ToString("s") which says to use the XML sortable format (which is what InfoPath is expecting) at: yyyy-MM-dd.
If you make the field a "string" datatype then you miss out on a lot of useful built-in date ...
