You need to first get the text value of the date (forgive me if I write bad VB -- I'm not fluent in it):
Dim dtString as New String
dtString = thisXDocument.DOM.selectSingleNode("/dfs:myFields/my:WeekBeginning").text
Dim dt As New DateTime
dt = DateTime.Parse(dtString) ' Probably want to do some error checking here before you ...

I'm not overly familiar with how ActiveX controls interface with InfoPath code (if at all). The control creator could probably give you more detail. There might be some way to interface with them, though I suspect not.
All of the built-in controls are NOT accessible via code. They are all auto-updating, etc. It is my understanding that ...

You can certainly use an XPath like:
my:field1 = 'Include'
or
my:field1[. = 'Include']
But you cannot use:
count(my:RepGroup1)
because this is not supported in code. However, you can do a selectNodes and then get the .Count property for the number you want.

You will probably need to store the "form state" in a field. You could use text or numerical values (i.e. STATE: 1 = Requestor, 2 = Approver, 3 = Notification).
Then in your open rules (Tools | Form Options), you would look to see what state the form is in, and switch to the appropriate view.

You started off okay using "MainDataSource" but then started using "CurrentView". These are not the same thing. The view is what is visually displayed to the user. The MainDataSource is the data that is displayed in the view.
If you are trying to access nodes or values, you should be using a data source (MainDataSource or ...

Yeah, kind of weird. But now you know what to keep an eye out for!

I am working on this exact issue. Has anybody ever figured out how to do such a thing? Currently I have Ivl's second method implemented. Thanks for any help!

Is there a way for Infopath to determine if the application is not available so it could reroute the user to a different location?

I had several time fields that I changed to text. When I entered "1:23" into one of the text fields, it showed "1:23", but an Expression Box view of the field showed it as "1:23:00". Apparently something within InfoPath was still treating it as a time field. Deleting the old fields and creating new ones from scratch ...
