Hi,
I have a situation in which I hope there's a simple solution...

You can add a rule which checks string-length(.) != 9 and then pops up a message... but what you really want is to use custom validation which tests for exactly 9 characters and then gives an error if it's not. If the user can leave it blank, you will need to allow for that in the custom validation as well.

Ocassionally a form can become corrupted. And it's often impossible to track down why. Its good to keep occasional backups as you develop, or use a source control system.
You might be able to, if it's not an overly complex form, rebuild it and then compare all the template source files to see what is different.

Sure thing. Glad to help!
