Yes, that should be possible, but if you're going to go that far, is there a reason to have two separate repeating groups? Is there a reason not to have just one that you display in both views?

Well, if you're building up the XML with a concat() statement, that's going to be treated as a string value no matter what settings you choose. I think you may be out of luck with that approach.

It's practically the same in 2010, except that instead of using the Text Box properties, you would open up the Manage Rules pane, and add a Validation rule. Everything from there should be pretty self explanatory if you have that webpage as a guide.

Actually, I don't believe that's true. It seems that the character limit does not cause validation errors to happen, even if the length is over the limit. It just prevents the user from entering too many characters.

Incidentally, your approach should work, and it did work when I tried it. This part is incorrect: count(../preceding-sibling::my:RepeatingGroup); it shouldn't have the ../ in it, but that may have just been a typo when you were entering it here ...

The textbox character limit only stops users from entering any more characters if it reaches the limit. It has no effect on the field itself and will not truncate the field value. If the field already has a value that is over the limit, users will be able to delete characters, but not type any new text until the field length is ...

How about having putting a repeating section for your group4 group on your "Requestor Content" view, inside a section that's always hidden? Then you could probably add rows to it without switching views, and the changes would be reflected in your "Lab Content" view.

When you're using conditional formatting, you usually need to think backwards and figure out what you want to NOT show as opposed to what you do. In this case, I think the condition you want to use is:
Condition: Sonumber (Data) (is not equal to) SOinumber (Form field)

If you use an expression box (calculated value) instead of a textbox, that should allow for auto-width. An expression box can't wrap around to a second row of text, but it should solve your problem to some degree.
