I am desperate here as my deadline is fast approaching.
I have 2 task forms and using ItemMetadata.xml , I used to be able to pass data from one form to the other.
I now have a new workflow but with the same exact forms and form 2 is no longer inheriting the values passed to it.
I made sure ItemMetadata.xml is capitalized correctly, ...

Hey Kyle.
As you have found, the default database functionality is limited. You can only submit a database type form to one table.
With webservices and SQL express you get much greater flexibility.
You could possibly use code to do this second submit.
I would suggest you use Access.
If you have the data in tables already I would run a process ...

When you say populated are you referring to an existing form in a library?
Or you want some default data or something?

Hey Patrick.
Not that I know of.
You can list views in the toolbar but I do not believe there is a way to access them there with keystrokes.
You could have buttons in each view and with tabs switch to the button and then select it without leaving the keyboard.
If their were set places where the switch would occur that might work.

Best Practice is to get webservices, like the tools from www.qdabra.com, and then you can take your existing form and have it submitting to your DB in under an hour.
As far as Table setup. You typically want to look at your main schema and any repeatin nodes in your schema would be relational child tables in the DB. Each form would be ...

I couldn't see any of other option suit to my requirement.
But I wonder the performance diff between combobox and dropdown controls. As the user needed an option to enter new value directly, I tried using combobox instead of dropdown. The performance went down. Form takes 3 times of actual time with dropdown.
Do I need to do any addition to ...

Thanks for the tip, Hilary - I set up a regular button with the same rules and it worked perfectly.
The only downside is that it brings up an alert box with 'some rules were not applied' which isn't as nice as the default 'cannot be submitted' error, but I will have a fumble with the settings and see if I can change that ...

Create a field in your main datasource called filename
Add a open rule (Tools, form options, Open, rules)
Add a condition if filename is blank.
Set filename to now()
Then in your submit for the filename just reference the field.

Hi --
I don't think you are doing anything wrong -- when I first saw your post I put together a quick demo and had exactly the same results. It seems that the validation errors prevent any rules in the submit from being run.
I wonder if you used a regular button and added rules to it (so that the button's action was Rules and ...

Hi,
On the submit options dialog I have 'allow users to submit this form' and 'perform custom action rules' selected.
Then in the rules dialog, I have my rule to set the form-field value above my rule to submit the form.
This rule to set the value of the form-field is 'set a field's value: formSubmitted = ...
