Yes, that is entirely possible to do. The fields bound to dropdown boxes are always different from the source of the dropdown boxes' contents.

So you're saying that the field where you're storing the results is in the groupToSum group? If that's the case then you can probably get around this issue by storing the result in a field outside that group.

I have an imported excel into Infopath 2007 . Currrently, I am using 100 drop menu boxes for each row and entering list values manually 100 times. Are you storing the result to a field in the groupToSum group? If you are, that formula will create a recursive loop, and that error.
