Thx for your reply.
When the form is open, a data connection retrieves the ID value from the form library and one rule sets the cell to that number. That works. However, when I add a second row the cell is empty.
Now I am considering using your method for generating unique IDs using stored procedures for both the employee code and the contract ...

Well I seemed to have solved the problem. I created a new lookup column in my SharePoint list which I linked to the Title column, unbound. Then I changed the xpath expression box which was serving as the title of the checkboxes on my form, to reference this new field. Now it doesn't change when they are clicked.

Hello Hilary,
First off, thank you so much for helping. You've answered a few of my questions now and I appreciate your patience in dealing with a newbie.

You can add another query data connection in your form that queries the database where you are storing all your leave data. Then, for each of your leave types, you can add a repeating table bound to that data source. Filter each table according to leave ...

Ah, so you have check boxes bound to the @Title field from the ShP list. What do you want to have happen when the checkbox is selected (aside from *not* changing the title to 'yes')?

If you save your form as source files, you can look at template.xml or sampledata.xml to see your main data source XML, this may help you get the XPath to your data nodes correct. I'd guess that it is going to be "dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:tbl_GC100/@Lockbox".
