I just verified that I get the same behavior. That's flat weird. However, since I'm stubborn, I tried this:
sPath="C:\base"
Dim ipApp
Set ipApp = CreateObject("InfoPath.Application")
Call ipApp.XDocuments.Open(sPath + ".xml",8)
And it worked....

I'm doing something similar except that instead of using a filter I change FileLocation to switch to a different view based on the selection. The reason I can't use filter is because I have multiple values in my lookup column.
Cascading drop-down is working fine except that after the form is submitted only the selected value ...

Manu, that seems like a bit much to accomplish this. I don't think it makes sense to administrative approve EVERY form just for this purpose. That's a ton of work and a ton of extra administrative overhead, imo. My method mentioned above is very simple and works perfectly well for both scenarios you gave: workflow ...

I don't work with browser-enabled forms so I've never used the form state, but could you tell us why you want to store an XPathNavigator globally? I can't think of a whole lot of reasons why you would need to.

Might the field's name be LoginId with a lowercase D or Loginid with all of "ID" in lowercase? Please double-check the capitalization and if you can't figure it out could you post a screenshot of your data source?
