Thanks, I understand now. FYI- As for the new fields, I tried adding the ShowData field to myFields as True/False, set its default as blank, added an Open rule to set it to FALSE, and conditionally formatted the Section within the "data"section to hide if ShowData was FALSE. It had no effect.
But, I think I can ...

I want to be able to take the data out of the old version file - XML and put it into the new form. Can I change the form that opens the old XML somehow? The only thing I did to the form was change some text fields to wrap to multi-line and added or deleted choices to selection boxes.
Is there another way to copy data from one form to ...

Ok so while I don't know specifically what was happening under the hood, so to speak, the problem was caused by my installation of the "Office SharePoint Designer 2010 (x86) – Technical Preview".
Uninstalled that and the Web Service Data Connection appears to be working as normal.
Thanks,
Ben

Generally, if I am adding fields for showing / hiding data, I'd make them True/False. I think that's simpler.
For item 2, I've attached a screen shot -- in your rule condition, you'd select the repeating data field from your main data connection (/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:tableName) and then in the Select drop down, choose ...

Ok, thank you. Which node is the repeating one in your data source? I guess it's item? If that's the case, please try this:
string
r = e.Source.SelectSingleNode("field1", NamespaceManager).Value;

Sorry to trouble you,
string
r = e.Source.SelectSingleNode("item/field1", NamespaceManager).Value;
if ((r == "S"))
{
}
I tried above code but it was giving me an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Then i used working with full Xpath.
Thanks,
Kalyan.

To me, that sounds like the field that the drop down control is bound to is not a field in the repeating group that the repeating section is bound to. Let's say you have a repeating group called 'item' and it has a field called 'color'. If your drop down control is bound to your color field and that field is inside your item ...

So I asked you to try this:string r = e.Source.SelectSingleNode("item/field1", NamespaceManager).Value; And you continued to do this: XPathNavigator
xCheck = e.Source.SelectSingleNode("/dfs:myFields/dfs:queryFields/tns:method1/structure/item/field1", NamespaceManager);
string r = ...

Hi Hilary- No I don't mind adding the fields. Couple of questions:
1. Should these new fields you say to add be a Field(element) type and Text (string) data type or True/False data type?
2. When you say "run a query could include a rule to set ShowData to true if the count of the data nodes is greater than 0...." can you give ...
