Wow, I just don't have any good advice for you -- You may have gotten as much out of your original form as you can with the HTML to Word, then Word to InfoPath route. This Office Online article explains more about the Word to InfoPath import and may give you some insight as to what is happening with your fields....

Hi --
It sounds like you have step 1 complete -- your InfoPath form has a submit connection to your desired library?
For step 2, a dropdown would be fine. Think about how often those email addresses might change, and you may want to use a secondary data connection to populate your dropdown, so that you don't have to modify the form to ...

I remember back in InfoPath 2003, I'd place a drop down and a text box bound to the same field. One option in the drop down would be 'Other ...' and then I'd conditionally format the drop down to hide and the text box to show if the value of the drop down was 'Other ...'. I'm not familiar with Kronos, and since no one else has responded, I'm guessing I'm not the only one -- what is it? Does it come with any webservices? Where does it keep its data?

you might consider submitting the form on a normal buttton instead of a submit button, in that case you dont need to set the cancelableargs. drawback of this is that you will have to use a label(textbox) to give the status to the user.

There is a way around for this, you will have to write code for that. in the code for submit give contribute permissions to the user and submit the form via code and after the form is submitted remove the permissions. the permissions to the libarary will last for a few seconds so that should not harm you.

yes it is possible to submit a completed form via email as well as save it to the database at the same time. Just create a button and write rules to do so. you will have to create two submit connection. one for sending the mail and another for emailing.
you will have to write two rules on the button one to save to database and another to email
