Here is what i am trying to do.
I have a WSS list with 2 columns Year and ProjectNumber. This is being used to create an incrementale number with the addition that the numbers start from 1 again at the begining of a new year.

drop a button on to the form, double click the form -> edit form code.
write the code there.

make sure you are first firing the rules and then you are submitting, it seems that the form is submitted first and then the rules get fired.
other option will be to try splitting the actions on to many rules.

I have found that the culprit is in the string.Split(char) method. The exception is thrown (but doesn't cancel the actual splitting) if you uncomment the Split part in the following simple sequence:string login = i.Current.SelectSingleNode("my:AccountId", NamespaceManager).Value/*.Split('\\')[1]*/; ...

I wish it was that simple. How do i get the text box to look up the XML data connection then? I tried changing the drop down to a text box but it strips out the data connection and filtering and everything.
Agreed the whole purpose of a drop down is for users to make a choice but they may get the idea's of the forms wrong and choose the wrong ...
