Okay - so the setting I am talking about for multiple items is only used if the form is a SharePoint List form. If you are using IP 2007, I don't think you can design ShP List forms with that, so your form is probably not a list form.
When you publish your form, you can choose what columns to promote. When you pick the form field, if it is ...

Hi - when you submit an InfoPath form to a form library, you'll only see one row in the library per XML. You can promote repeating data as merged. If your form is a list form (bound to a SharePoint list) you can set it up to manage multiple items, but you won't be able to add any repeating tables outside of the one used for the main submit.

I think you might mean opening the form in a dialog? Like list items can be opened? Here is a blog with a suggestion - I have not tried it myself. :)
EDITED: to add the actual blog link. http://marriedtosharepoint.com/2012/01/15/open-an-infopath-form-in-a-dialog/

Just to update the thread - an updated qRules DLL (v5.2) seems to have addressed the exception. We also changed the form to remove a filter on a repeating section, since filters and IPFS seem to be fraught with bugs. We used conditional formatting instead.

Well, and is the view you are switching to the view you are displaying these items in?
You could, just for testing, add controls to the view your button is in to display the data - and not switch views. Does the form hang then? I mean, it will for a while it renders the repeating data, but you could at least see if you have the same behavior.

About how many rows of data do you pull back where you find the view switch is working? I've not run into this before - I have had views with a ton of repeating data displayed that might be very slow to switch, but never that it absolutely kills InfoPath.

Hi - is this a filler or browser form? What happens if you just wait it out - does the view finally switch? Would the view you are switching to be quite long due to the amount of records and thus take a long time to navigate? Have you tried running your code in debug to see if it is the code execution that is causing the delay?

Darn. I'd hoped it was going to show the filter field and value in the URL.
I mean, based on everything here, I'd assume a link like this would work:
https://TEST/Sites/CRSBillReviewLog/Lists/CRS%20Nurse%20Log/AllItems.aspx?View={89f76fd4-4c67-4311-a2fb-7f8764619528}&FilterField1=ICN_Text&FilterValue1=DESIREDVALUE

Can you try datasheet view? Here is a link with some other ideas: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/introduction-RZ101874361.aspx?section=2

Go to the default view of the list you want to create the link for. Find the column you want to filter on. The column heading has a little drop down arrow, right? And you can click it to show a menu? The items in that column should have checkboxes beside them if the column can be filtered. Click one of the checkboxes. Then copy the URL and paste ...
