Thanks Qazi, I had previously found this link, but I still do not understand how to return a dynamic parameters. On each of my pages the reference number is different. I do not want to set the parameter I want it to change based on the page.

Yep that would be another option. I'd previously tried this in my environment and it worked pretty well.
Each option has its advantages and disadvantages though and for this option the disadvantage is that the Sharepoint site would have to deal with double the number of form submissions, so I'm not sure its the best option for ...

well i think you can use code to do the same, you can write object code to fetch the requiered data from sharepoint in sorted manner and then populate the dropdowns using code.
