Thanks for your help, I have tried this but the problem seems that the approve is associated with edit, once I remove edit the approve removes itself too.
I wonder is there is a way to set the infopath form fields to be none editable once submited, so in this case the approver wont be able to edit due to infopath rules rather than ...

use conditional formatting to diable/make readonly. right click on control -> conditional formatting
-> create a condition that will always be true
like field1 is equal to field1
click disable this control/ read only (which ever applicable)

No unfortunatly it hasn't worked, I can't seem to get around the error.
What I was thinking is to do this at run time through go (on the save event).
I mean all I really need to do is add a delimeter to the repeating table data and perhaps trying use the eval is not the best way to go about it.
