Thanks Jimmy, that worked!

If the rule logic isn't too complicated, it may be simplest to just put the exact same set of rules on both fields.

Rock On! Got it working. Thanks so much Jimmy, Hillary and Ernesto!
I just have one other question. The value of my field 'estno' depends on two filters w/n the querydb, 'year' and 'branchoffice'. I have put all of my actions for assigning my 'estno' value in my ...

Hello all,
We are using InfoPath 2007 SP 2 with MOSS 2007 SP2.
I have the following XPath as the default formula for a string:

You'll need to modify the first action in the rule (from the screenshot you included above). Right now you have:
Next_Estimate = concat("<query...
But you need
queryxml = concat("<query...
Where queryxml is a node in the secondary data source you created to query the database (NextEstimateNumber).

How do I set the value of queryxml?

You'll need to change the first action to set the queryxml node in the secondary data connection. The execution steps then become:
1. Set the value of queryxml of the the query data connection
2. Execute the query data connection
3. Set the desired field to the result obtained from the query data connection

Okay, now I'm really confused. So I have attached a snapshot of my Rules actions in my estyear field :
First Action: "It should not be setting a field in the main data source, but a field in the secondary data connection you created to QueryDB"
So am I supposed to make the Next_Estimate (this is the ...

Also, comparing your query strings I notice:you're using #CORLOG# in one and CORLOG in the other (for the database parameter).You have a maxrows of 1 in the concat statement. If you are filtering, and you expect to only find one matching value, then the maxrows parameter won' t be necessary.<query database='#CORLOG#' ...
